Calling all chefs. Your new role as a Second Chef could be right around the corner at Hilltop Court Care Home in Stockport. The home is looking for a talented second Chef in leading a culinary team and providing a high-quality service to our residents.

Here at Hilltop Court, our kitchens are at the heart of our home. Nutrition is an important part of our residents' lives, but food can also be a great source of enjoyment for our residents. Our kitchen team ensure our menus remain season based, changeable and tailored to our resident’s taste. The kitchen team is passionate about food, trying new recipes and sourcing fresh ingredients to ensure the residents get the best quality food whilst in our care.

As well as your energy and enthusiasm for food, a year’s experience in catering, an NVQ Level 2 or QCF equivalent in food & hygiene or catering services, working knowledge of health & safety and a good understanding of different cultural and ethnic traditions with regard to catering

As Second Chef You’ll prepare meals and snacks to the highest standard, ensuring our residents enjoy well-cooked, nutritious and beautifully presented food, taking into account ethnic origins and religious convictions.

You’ll develop an awareness of special dietary requirements, including the dementia dining experience, to meet these needs. You’ll also use your creativity and passion to regularly review and develop the menu.

You will be reliable, friendly and professional. Further, you will be a team player with great communication skills and a flexible approach to work.

Food safety is of utmost importance, so knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices is required. The ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively is also necessary for success in this role.

Summary of Position:

We are in search of a ‘first class’ Cook Chef to join our team, full time, including some weekends. The successful candidate will have culinary and management experience, be responsible for kitchen functions including ordering supplies, preparation, and maintenance of quality standards, sanitation and cleanliness, and supervision of employees.

Duties and responsibilities (although this is not a definitive list):


Support the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals and snacks throughout the day in line with our residents’ preferences and dietary needs e.g. diabetics, texture modified food, vegetarian



Stock management and ordering supplies
Menu planning
Maintain food safety checks and records as per company requirements
Ensure that you are aware of and adhere to company policy and procedures
Follow Health and Safety procedures
Ensure that all equipment and food service areas are kept clean and in excellent working condition
Work alongside the Activities Team to cater for special events taking place within the home.
Managing budgets
Oversee and ensure that employee supervisions are completed on a timely basis
Rota scheduling


Essential Characteristics:


Previous experience of working in a care setting
Qualification(s) in catering
Qualification(s) in food safety/hygiene

Possess good judgement, problem solving, and decision-making skills
Effective time keeping and time management
