Summary

Are you looking to join a vibrant community hub and be part of a friendly, bustling café team? The Carrick Centre in Maybole is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to help in our busy café and assist with catering activities for events. This role offers a variety of responsibilities, primarily within the kitchen/café but also including support for special functions and events.

Main Responsibilities:
• Assist in basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables.
• Keep the café clean, organised, and ready for customers by clearing tables and maintaining a welcoming environment.
• Wash dishes, load and unload the dishwasher, and store items properly.
• Set up the dining area, including arranging tables, chairs, and table settings as per the Catering Manager’s instructions.
• Operate the till, process payments, and provide excellent customer service.
• Serve customers with a warm and friendly attitude, addressing any concerns politely and efficiently.
• Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen by washing kitchenware, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the overall hygiene of the work area.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and customers.
• Assist in cleaning the café and kitchen at the beginning and end of service or as directed by the Manager.
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong communication skills, able to interact politely and clearly with both customers and colleagues.
• Comfortable with basic catering, food prep, and cleaning tasks.
• Able to stand for extended periods and handle heavy items like chairs, tables, and large cooking pots.
• Able to work efficiently in a hot, fast-paced environment.
• Strong time management skills to meet daily deadlines.
• A proactive team player who can also work independently to ensure tasks are completed effectively.
• Ability to communicate instructions clearly and respond to different situations calmly, especially in emergencies (e.g., fire evacuation or accidents).
• Punctual, responsible, and committed to fulfilling duties on time.
Preferred Experience:
• Prior experience in basic food handling within a commercial setting is advantageous but not required. Full training will be provided.
