Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Pharmacist within our Immunotherapy Clinical Pharmacy Team. As a Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Ophthalmology you will lead, deliver and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to patients receiving care within the Adult Ophthalmology Service.
Our Ophthalmology Department is based at St Thomas’ Hospital and Minnie Kidd House. We treat a wide range of conditions/services including:
• Autoimmune Eye Conditions including uveitis
• Glaucoma and Cataracts
• Corneal disorders
• External eye diseases
• Oculoplastics
• Medical Eye Unit
• Surgical and Medical Retina
• Neuro-ophthalmology
• Emergency Eye Department
Our Ophthalmology Day Care Unit and Outpatient Infusion suite provides facilities for a range of treatments or investigations for patients who do not need a full hospital admission, but need more care than what is routinely given during an outpatient clinic appointment. This includes parenteral biologic treatments for patients with complex clinical needs.
You will work closely with our nursing, medical and administrative staff to ensure the safe and effective use of high cost biologic and non-biologic, and complex medicines within Ophthalmology. The majority of the service is outpatient based, however, you will support the inpatient care of complex ophthalmology inpatients and our ophthalmic theatres as required. You will attend weekly MDT's and clinically screen medication for patients attending our outpatient infusion suite or receiving medicines directly at home. You will also work closely with inpatient and outpatient pharmacy staff to support the medicines supply process. You will also participate in weekend working, including pharmaceutical care of acutely unwell medical patients. You will co- supervise the Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in the Ophthalmology and Neurosciences rotation. There is the opportunity to develop the role of the pharmacist and extending practice to a prescribing role would be considered in the future.
Our friendly Immunotherapy Pharmacy Team consists of 12 Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians delivering specialist clinical services to a number of specialties including allergy, dermatology, neurosciences, chronic pain and rheumatology. There is a wealth of experience and support in the team.
The successful candidate will represent pharmacy at monthly specialty meetings including safety, risk, business and finance. Furthermore, you will supervise specialist clinical pharmacists rotating through the specialty and deliver education and training to pharmacy undergraduates, junior doctors and nurses. You will also actively participate in SEL ICS Clinical Pathway groups to deliver medicines optimisation to patients inside and outside of hospital.
For an informal discussion or visit to the Department please contact Scott Mercer before 29/08/2024 (on annual leave thereafter) or Hira Saeed.
