Our Fulfilment operation is fundamental to supporting the success of Online, and the greatest lever in achieving our profitability objectives. As a Lead Operations Development Manager you will translate strategy into action, implementing plans thoughtfully and working collaboratively and cross functionally with multiple partners.

You will lead multiple projects, people and be a subject matter expert. You will set the standard of the team, and cultivate a culture of excellence. You will work in an Agile environment as part of a squad of colleagues working towards a common goal!

You will be responsible for

  • Embracing working in an Agile environment where colleagues have responsibility for crafting their own work and collaborating across different abilities to achieve common Objectives and Key Results.
  • Ensuring Tesco project management principles are followed including partner management, set up/organisation of the project, budget set up/control with cost savings and customer experience improvements delivered and communicating with/motivating squad members.
  • Ensuring clear definition of projects and scope from the beginning, ensuring the project always remains on track and in scope.
  • Prioritising and engaging with relevant subject matter experts, leading and motivating them to contribute to the delivery of the project.
  • Handling risk and issues, setting up and leading a clear governance programme.
  • Handling interdependencies and any potential conflicts, working with others to deliver the project objectives/scope and for the good of customers, colleagues & planet.
  • Crafting a clear implementation programme, working with the people and communications teams as required.
  • Supervising progress of delivery and updating partners including business leaders on the results.
  • Achieving great results by encouraging, engaging and leading others; you make our customers and colleagues feel valued.
  • Knowing your stuff, sharing your knowledge and passion, the way you lead makes Tesco a great place to work and shop.
  • Taking ownership of processes and systems, making sure they are effective and efficient; you spot issues and swiftly find the best and simplest solutions.
  • Understanding how technology is key to the future of Tesco, making sure digital is part of key decisions.
  • Being flexible in your approach, you are able to run various projects and programmes of work across different areas within Online improving different parts of the shopping trip for customers or simplifying our operations with new initiatives.
  • Closing projects down once complete and completing a post implementation review, to understand the lessons learned, sharing these with partners and ensuring continuous improvements on ‘the what’ and ‘the how’ is in place.
  • Manage a team of Operations Development Managers.

You will need

Operation skills relevant for this job:

  • Understanding of Online business models and economics
  • People Management
  • Experience of executing a full project lifecycle
  • Strong strategy and proposition development as well as analytical skills
  • Ability to bridge between critical thinking and pragmatic implementation
  • Sophisticated project/programme leadership skills
  • Strong stakeholder management ability
  • Excellent commercial competence and understanding of wider business context
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to influence at all levels
  • Experience in using advance project management methodologies

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Retail operations.
  • E2E Project Management experience including management of a complex network of collaborators.
  • Experience working in or delivering projects in Fulfilment/Supply Chain environments.
  • Budget management and commercial savvy.
  • An inquisitive outlook and growth mindset.
  • Record of effective joint business planning and delivery of cross-functional initiatives from concept to trial and rollout.
  • Experience of broad partner management, including executive levels and developing networks beyond your function.
  • Strategy formulation, business development, corporate development in Online / Retail context.
  • Experience sizing business opportunities and crafting business cases.
  • Project Management Qualification e.g. Six Sigma, APM
