Summary


Macmillan Clinical Psychologist/ Counselling Psychologist in Cancer and Palliative Care– 8A post

***This is a Band 8a post, however, we also welcome applications from those candidates at a Band 7 level who could progress on a development/ preceptorship scheme to the full 8a post over a 12-24 month period***

An opportunity has arisen to join the Macmillan Psycho-oncology Service at London North West Healthcare Trust as a Band 8a Practitioner Psychologist, full time. The role would suit a candidate who is keen to develop a wide variety of both clinical health psychology and service development skills, knowledge and experience.

Those who are at Band 7 level (including those who are newly qualified) are welcome to apply for, and be considered for, this post under a preceptorship-development model. The candidate would be supported through job planning and reviews to meet identified objectives of the post in order to progress towards the full Band 8a role.

The role will involve teaching, supervision and benefit from internal and external CPD. The post holder will be managed and supervised by the Macmillan Psycho-oncology Lead and will work alongside the Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and an Assistant Psychologist.

The Macmillan Psycho-oncology Service (MPS) operates within a model of stepped care and is therefore well integrated into the wider staff team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Specifically, the post holder will:

• Provide a highly specialist psychology service to cancer and palliative care patients including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

• Contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe and informed environment.

• Initiate and collaborate in service evaluation, audit and research.

• To provide clinical supervision, consultation and training for MDT staff and other psychological practitioners

• Work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies, standards and procedures of the service, Psychological Services Network and Trust, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
