About the role
We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist with research interests in cancer, infection, metabolism or neurodegenerative disease for the post of Associate Professor of Biomedical Science. As Associate Professor, you will be expected to be a major authority in your subject area with an international reputation and a proven track record of academic leadership. Your research should be internationally competitive, reflecting a track record of outputs that are internationally recognised and world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. We encourage interdisciplinary portfolios, where high quality research can be linked to future Impact Case Studies. You will need to evidence your track record in developing and securing external funding, and you will also have a track record of successful recruitment and supervision of PhD students.
The role also involves contribution to teaching and learning across the Biomedical Discipline. As an Associate Professor, you will be expected to contribute to our mentoring scheme and the wider college and university professoriate. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake important leadership and / or management roles, including collaborations outside of the University with public and private partners, academic institutions, research funders, government agencies, non-government bodies and industry, in accordance with their chosen specialism.

In order to meet the Associate Professor criteria, as evidence of your academic authority, you will need to demonstrate proven achievement against two criteria:
Significant achievement in at least one of either
Research or
Professional Practice or
Teaching & learning
and must also demonstrate
2. High level of achievement in relation to both
Professional Standing and
Senior leadership.
You will be expected to complete a short application online for the role through the University’s recruitment process and provide the following documentation:
(i) An up to date current curriculum vitae;
(ii) A supporting covering letter outlining your suitability to the underlying role requirement, and;
(iii) The names of two employment referees (including ideally, the last line manager)
In addition, in order to meet the Associate Professorial criteria, you will need to provide:
(iv) A written statement evidencing how you meet the criteria for the award of the title of Associate Professor.
(v) Please also include two appropriately qualified referees (of at least Associate Professor status) in relation to the Associate Professorial title.
