Your morning starts with a quick huddle with the Principal Technician and the rest of the team. We're talking medication guidelines, formulary changes, and any special tasks that need extra attention. After the briefing, it's time to dive into the nitty-gritty: managing stock levels, coordinating orders, and ensuring everything is running smoothly. You're the go-to person for stock questions, liaising with the Pharmacy Store and keeping pharmacists and ward staff in the loop. As the day unfolds, you're mentoring and guiding pharmacy technicians, pre-registration trainees, and pharmacy assistants. You're the expert and make sure everyone is following the right procedures. You're also a key player in training and development, helping to shape the future of the pharmacy team. In the afternoon, it's time to think big. You're working closely with the Principal Technician to identify areas where we can improve. This might mean planning new procedures, auditing existing ones, or updating policies. It's all about ensuring we're delivering the best possible service to our patients. As your shift winds down, you review outstanding tasks, update stock records, and get the pharmacy ready for the next day. This is just a glimpse into a day as a pharmacy technician at ESTH. If you're someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and are passionate about mentoring the next generation of technicians, this role might be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our dispensary. Here’s how you’ll make a difference each day:

· Manage Daily Workload: Assist in overseeing the checking of both inpatient and outpatient prescriptions to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

· Ensure Safe Dispensing: Guarantee the safe, efficient, and timely dispensing of prescriptions, adhering to departmental policies while meeting the needs of both patients and the pharmacy department.

At Epsom & St Helier, we pride ourselves on creating a diverse and inclusive environment where every member of our pharmacy team feels valued. We emphasise the importance of teamwork, open communication, and mutual support, ensuring that our staff are both professionally and personally fulfilled. Our pharmacy wellbeing group organises engaging events and provides opportunities for growth, such as resilience, recruitment training and more, empowering our technicians to develop their skills and advance in their careers.

We're excited to announce the upcoming introduction of Band 4 to Band 5 progression roles. This initiative will offer comprehensive training designed to help our technicians advance to Band 5 within just 9 months. Additionally, we actively support staff in obtaining the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification, which is essential for those looking to progress in their careers.

Within the Trust, we offer specialist technician roles in key areas such as Procurement, Sexual Health, Education & Training, Medicines Information, and Medicines Management. This diversity of roles allows our technicians to explore different specialties and take on additional responsibilities as they gain experience and expertise.

As a 7-day working department, our team operates on a rotating schedule that includes working one weekend every seven weeks (Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM) with two rest days during the week. Our staff also participate in the late lock-up and bank holiday rotas, ensuring comprehensive service coverage.

ESTH is more than just a workplace—it's a supportive and friendly community. Here, pharmacy technicians are not only encouraged to succeed but also to enjoy their work. We work hard, support one another, and make time to share a laugh along the way.
