Summary

Job Title: Campus Safety Liaison Officer

Location: Birmingham (3 x sites - B4, B44, B74)

Salary: £20,000 - £23,000

Hours of Work: 5 days, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm

Holiday: 30 days a year

Start Date: September 2024

Contract: Permanent

Responsible to: Campus Safety Supervisor

Highly desirable: Ex police officers, probation officers or social workers

Post Objective: Implementing site policy and procedures as per assignment instructions to achieve the standard of Security as requested by the College and to implement an intervention strategy to manage/improve student behaviour and reduce disciplinary action.

A large and successful college, based at 3 x sites, in Birmingham (B4, B44, B74) are looking to appoint a motivated, independent and hardworking individual to fill the permanent post of Campus Safety Liaison Officer. The successful candidate will deliver a first-class Security and wellbeing service to all staff, students and visitors at the sites of Birmingham Metropolitan College. You will be required to work at all 3 sites.

Essential Qualifications:
- SIA Badge (Security Industry Association)
- First Aid at Work
- Transport to attend any of the 3 sites as needed (you will not be required to travel between sites during the day)

General Duties:
- Enhances day-to-day public relations by providing information and assistance to students, staff and the public in a way that establishes and maintains a positive rapport and builds trust and confidence with faculty, staff and students
- Assist certificated employees with preventive discipline by explaining College rule, risks and unacceptable behaviour to students and parents or guardians
- To assist the Campus Safety Supervisor with designing a system of work that provides proactive action for students at BMet to intervene with student behaviours prior to disciplinary action
- To lead on the development and operation of the student intervention process; liaising with curriculum, student experience and enrichment teams to ensure appropriate outcomes
- To identify trends in student behaviours and implement agreed activities and processes to reduce student disciplinaries
- To monitor and report on levels of student disciplinaries across all BMet sites
- To assist the Campus Safety Team with any aspects of their job role as required by the Campus Safety Supervisor
- To communicate with students, creating a friendly environment, meet & greet and encourage the BMet 'Ready, Respectful & Safe' ethos
- Prevent unauthorised individuals' and non-students who come onto BMet sites. Notifying the necessary BMet personnel if anyone presents a potential threat to the safety of staff, students and visitors of BMet
- To patrol the College building(s) at agreed times and monitor the recreational areas of the College including canteen, common room, coffee shop, smoking areas and external spaces
- To attend as required any incident whilst enforcing the student conduct code & student disciplinary procedure
- Discourage anti-social behaviour such as vandalism and defuse contentious situations
- Record all incidents daily through appropriate College systems such as Promonitor and any other relevant BMet systems
- To ensure all college queries and complaints are dealt with in a timely and effective manner
- Report any issues with process or serious student incidents to the Campus Safety Supervisor
- To assist the Campus Safety Team in immediately responding to any emergency situations (fire evacuation, terrorist threat, violent action etc) to provide necessary assistance to staff, students, and visitors
- To assist in Emergency Evacuation procedures as well as evacuating persons using the evacuation chairs provided
