Summary
Teacher Active takes pride in collaborating with schools in Selly Oak that assist vulnerable children and students aged 3-16 with Autism and SEMH needs, which vary from Moderate Learning Difficulties to challenging behaviours. These schools provide for children and students who exhibit disruptive behaviour, verbal and physical outbursts of frustration, ADHD, and Autism.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate with students, teachers, and therapists to create personalized support plans for each student. Your role includes implementing strategies to de-escalate challenging situations and fostering a safe learning environment. You will support teachers in developing and delivering engaging lessons that cater to the individual abilities, learning styles, and needs of students, while also providing one-on-one and group learning support to those with additional needs. In working with SEMH students, your responsibility extends to overseeing their physical, social, and emotional well-being by ensuring a secure environment and tailoring your teaching support to meet each student's unique requirements.

The ideal TA / Teaching Assistant should have the following:
• Level 3 qualified and/or a minimum of 6 months’ experience in an educational establishment
• A persona that embodies calmness, patience, and care.
• Good communication skills
• A good understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines
• Experience in working with supporting students in their education on a 1:1 and a small group basis
• Effective behaviour management skillsEffective communication with members of internal staff
