Summary

Home Birth Midwife, Band 6, St George’s University Hospital, London
• If you thrive in an energetic environment, which is rich in culture and diversity, then consider working at St George's to be the right step forward for your midwifery career.
• With us you will gain experience from working in a major tertiary referral unit with many opportunities for further training and work experience.
• We currently have a vacancy for a passionate midwife to join us as Band 6 Midwives in our homebirth team. You will work as part of a fantastic team offering continuity to women choosing to give birth at home.
• Please note that you must have completed, or be near to completion of, your preceptorship year to apply.
• We take great pride in promoting midwifery by delivering holistic woman-centred care to our diverse local community.
• The enthusiastic and dynamic midwifery and obstetric teams work closely together with a positive embedded MDT culture to meet the specific and individual needs of women who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.
• We strive to normalise the pregnancy and birth experience for women with both low and high-risk pregnancies.
• We promote normality and are actively increasing our homebirth rate and the option of giving birth in our midwife-led unit through working towards a continuity of carer model.
• Equally, we are excelling in the provision of high-risk care for women who need it.
• Our caesarean section rate continues to be safely among the lowest in London and we support women through Birth after Caesarian Section and vaginal breech deliveries.
• We have an outstanding maternity HDU that cares for women who need more complex care and we offer training and support to all midwives interested in developing the skills to work here.
• We are also very proud of our well established Fetal Monitoring team that deliver MDT training, twice weekly teaching and clinically support learning on shifts.
• You will gain a deeper understanding of fetal well-being, CTG and STAN monitoring that will expand your knowledge and help support a safe and healthy birth.

Our Practice Education team are here to support you as you continue your midwifery journey with us and offer a comprehensive orientation package, CPD program and annual mandatory updates.

Our CPF's support all midwives with supporting students and offer training in SSSA so that staff can reach practice supervisor and assessor status.

We have further dedicated teams and specialist midwives for Ante Natal screening, Infant Feeding, NIPE, Bereavement, Governance, FGM, Maternal Medicine, Diabetes, Safeguarding and Perinatal Mental Health that have a wealth of experience and are able support you in areas you feel passionate about and develop your interest and knowledge.

You can develop your skills and practice across the entire maternity service and support women as we are committed to develop our care for all women with the Continuity of Carer model. All contracts have a potential rotational element to the first year although your focus will be on developing and supporting women on the Homebirth care pathway.

We know how passionate you are about women and midwifery care so if you are ready for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you.

Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research.
