Speech and Language Therapist – Hedgeway
Location: Pilning, Bristol, BS35 4JN
Salary: £32,358.95 - £38,398.33 (FTE £37,669 - £44,699)
Hours: 40 hours per week – Term time only
Aurora Hedgeway is a dynamic and inspiring provision for 7-19 year olds with complex communication and associated difficulties.
Putting students’ needs first, because they know that once they understand the young people’s personal needs and individual learning styles they can provide the right level of support to enable them to learn more effectively and achieve their full potential. Working with students to prepare them for adulthood, whether that be further education, training or employment.
The main purpose of the role:
The purpose of the role is to plan, provide and further develop an integrated Speech and Language Therapy service to the pupils at Hedgeway School, covering communication needs
Key duties:
Run social communication groups for students, either directly or supervising groups run by education staff.
Carry out speech and language interventions as described in students’ statutory documentation.
Carry out baseline communication assessments for all students.
Write SMART targets for education plans; and assess and monitor progress against these targets, amending where necessary
Lead and deliver training to the education team in social communication
Carry out a whole-school classroom language audit and provide recommendations for SLT.
Plan and implement individual communication programmes and provide accessible written guidelines which can be delegated and delivered by others.
Regularly monitor and review outcomes for communication aims/programmes and modify as required
Attend and contribute to annual reviews, provide clear and concise written reports.
Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidate qualities:
Qualifications:
To be a registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
To hold a professional Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
To work within the RCSLT clinical guidelines and HCPC standards.
Knowledge and experience:
Knowledge of a range of therapy interventions in learning disability
Knowledge of behaviour support
Knowledge of the impact of trauma and adverse early childhood experiences on communication
Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Conditions
Have at least two years’ post-graduate experience working as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist.
Working with children or young people with learning disabilities
Working with children or young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition
Have experience or knowledge of delivering provision through the EHCP process
