Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to lead the technical team in Data Connect. We are a team set up to help researchers get access to the health and social care data they need to do life-enhancing research that has an impact at local, national and global levels.
Data Connect sits within the Research and Innovation IT team in IT Services but supports research teams across the University including population health, medicine and computer science as well as the South Yorkshire Digital Health Hub, in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.
The Data Connect team is a new and fast-growing team of health data specialists, data managers, data and software engineers and project and service delivery professionals. We draw on the skills and experience of the wider Research IT team to develop and use best practice in creating, curating and providing secure access to valuable data sets. You will provide technical leadership on our flagship data asset CUREd+, a large and unique national database of urgent and emergency care data. You will also support the team to establish and maintain robust data pipelines from health data providers.
Your role will be instrumental in progressing the team’s technical development through upskilling and cross-skilling. You will ensure that good practice and appropriate governance are applied to each research project that Data Connect supports. You will do this by leading, supporting, developing and guiding the team, helping them improve their skills and practices, learning with each project delivered.
As part of IT Services at the University of Sheffield, the whole team enjoys and contributes to a culture of openness, trust, inclusivity and continuous learning that makes it an exciting and rewarding place to work.
What We Offer
● 41 days annual leave (including closure days and Bank Holidays), with the possibility to purchase up to ten additional days.
● Up to 5 days of paid time off to cover emergency caring responsibilities.
● A highly competitive pension scheme.
● A commitment to your development, with programmes, learning modules and mentoring schemes.
● Options that support a good work life balance including, flexible working opportunities and hybrid working where possible.
● A commitment to your wellbeing, with confidential emotional support, support for those going through the menopause, experiencing fertility treatment and having a baby, paid leave for IVF treatment and more.
● An inclusive and diverse workplace.
● Discounts at participating shops and cinemas, and a cycle to work scheme.
Who we are looking for
You will have a strong set of technical skills in data management and software development and a clear methodical approach to driving quality outputs through well-defined and robust processes. This will be combined with a collaborative and supportive team leadership style and a desire to develop skills in your team.
You will also be driven by the opportunity to work on projects that make a positive difference to people’s lives and wellbeing.
Our teams
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
