Transformation - Driving Change and Innovation

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Wiltshire Council for a Data Scientist to join our dynamic Data & Insight team within our Transformation Directorate.

The Data & Insight team works collaboratively with Council services and external partners to improve confidence in data and embed a culture of data-driven decision making. To us, data is the nervous system of the council and the second most important asset we have behind our people.

As a Data Scientist specialising in NLP, you will be responsible for designing and implementing advanced NLP systems to analyse data and generate actionable insights. You will conduct statistical analysis to support data-driven decision making, ensuring the accuracy, reliability and ethical use of NLP methodologies. Advising the Head of Data and Insight on sector developments and future requirements for NLP operations and development will also play a vital part in this role.

Our ideal candidate would hold a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Linguistics, or a relevant field with a focus on NLP or AI or possess relevant or experience in the field. Proven expertise in NLP, including topic clustering, text classification, sentiment analysis, and other unstructured data challenges will be essential. Proficiency in Python alongside experience of frameworks such as NLTK, SpaCy, or TensorFlow will also be required for this role.

To be considered please submit a cover letter alongside your application.
