Title: Temporary EHO - Facilities & Environmental Services

Pay Rate: £19.35 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3-4 months

City: EXETER

100 Inspections per officer. Officers are required to complete all the paperwork associated with the inspection.

Using discretionary and statutory powers, to work with all sectors of the community and with internal and external partners, to maintain and improve the quality and safety of the environment for those people who live in, work in or visit the City.

Assist the Environmental Health and Licensing Manager in providing a regulatory service and carrying out the Council’s statutory duties

Key responsibilities:

The investigation of complaints relating to business premises.
Respond appropriately to requests for service in accordance with national and internal guidance and procedures.
The inspection, auditing, sampling or other appropriate intervention of commercial premises, processes and plant in order to establish the most satisfactory course of action in respect of enforcement.
The preparation and enforcement of statutory notices taking any action appropriate.
The monitoring of works being undertaken as a result of legal action.
The collection of evidence associated with contraventions of the legislation enforced by the Unit for use in court proceedings.
Attend court proceedings or other enquiries on behalf of the City Council when required
to do so.
Administration of national and localised schemes such as the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and Primary Authority Partnerships.
Appropriately respond to consultations from other sections within the City Council and with external agencies in accordance with policies and procedures.
Undertake research, monitoring and provision of information and statistics as may be required to fulfil the duties required by the section.

Qualifications:

BSc/Diploma in Environmental Health and EHRB Certificate of Registration

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of computers and commonly used software

Experience:

Practical experience in general environmental health enforcement
Experience of letter writing
Experience of problem solving
Experience of dealing with complaints/enquiries from members of the public
Experience in maintaining record systems and statutory enforcement procedures

Skills & Abilities:

Good investigative skills
Good oral and written communication skills
Able to produce clear and accurate reports
Able to comply with detailed instructions
