This full-time post is for a band 7 Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) working across Berkshire within the Community Learning Disability Services (Adults).


You will be skilled in the use of advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment programmes with individual clients who have complex needs (physical health, mentalhealthand/or behaviour that challenges). You will be expected to work alongside other allied health professionals and external organisations within a multi-disciplinary team framework.





You will contribute to the development of service provision withinthe Learning Disability Service,alongside the operational team leads and professional leads. This includes ensuring best practice across thelearning disability servicewithintheChildren, Families and All Age (CFAA) Division.


You will lead the development of other therapists within theLDSpeech and Language Therapy service offering support, mentoring,trainingand specialist advice, as well as defining core competencies for staff to work towards.

• Leading the Speech & Language Therapy team,

• Working from thebase atErleghHouse in Readingwith colleagues from thecommunitylearning disability service

• You will assess, diagnose, treat and mange a highly specialised and complex caseload of clients referred into this specialist service. You will develop and implement person centred interventionsregardingboth communication and dysphagia needs

• Work closely alongside all members of the MDT, providing clinical support and professional exchange of ideas and experience.
• Develop care protocols / pathways relating to the specialist area to improve quality; engagement and consistency of care for people who use our services.

• Represent SLT at a managerial level and toparticipateat this level in the continuing development of the services.

• Be responsible forand to carry out supervision and appraisal,in accordance withTrust Policy, of other AHP members of the team as isrequired.

• Work with colleagues to manage demands placed on the service.

The “must haves” for this role:

1. Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent

1. Relevant highly specialist experience post qualification in learning disability

1. In- depth knowledge of a range of highly specialist therapeutic interventions relevant to the complex needs of the client group

1. Post graduate dysphagia qualification (orawillingness to undertake)
