MPCE has around 200 staff with a net annual budget of around £13M and income of £1.7M from external contracts. It provides comprehensive scientific & technical services to the Trust and external organisations. Its large Radiotherapy Physics & Engineering group works closely with Radiotherapy to deliver high quality patient care on state-of-the-art equipment, supported by technical staff undertaking servicing of treatment machines. Imaging is supported by Radiation Safety and Radiology Physics, Non-ionising Radiation, Nuclear Medicine Physics and MR Physics. Wider patient, staff and public safety is addressed by the Radiation Safety and Non-Ionising Radiation sections which also check and calibrate equipment for many external customers. Medical Equipment Management Services are provided to an extensive range of medical devices across the Trust, providing device repair, modification and development backed up by well-equipped Mechanical Engineering Workshops and a Clinical Engineering section dealing with regulatory and trust wide policy issues. The Clinical Scientific Computing team supports development, evaluation and deployment of digital health technologies, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). As part of the King’s Health Partners AHCS, Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering has close links to King’s College London and to Medical Engineering and Physics colleagues at Kings College Hospital, for service, teaching and research.
See attached JD for details of responsibilities. The postholder is lead RPA for the Trust and manages the Radiation safety and Radiology Physics team, consisting of around 20 clinical scientists and technologists. There are a number of external contracts to provide support to other NHS, academic and independent sector organisations.
