Summary


Are you a specialty doctor interested in a career in Substance misuse? Are you passionate about helping people on their recovery journey? Are you enthusiastic about both the mental health and physical health aspects of addictions? We have a fantastic opportunity for a specialty doctor in addiction psychiatry working in an established partnership between North London Mental Health Partnership and HumanKind (our 3rd Sector partner). You will be one of the front-line clinicians, working alongside a Consultant, Higher psychiatric trainee, Nurse medical prescriber, an Alcohol nurse and Health and Wellbeing nurse working alongside a team of recovery workers, complimentary therapist, psychotherapist and trainees, team leaders and managers. We have a dedicated rough sleeper team, criminal justice team, a recovery hub alongside clinical pathways focusing on various aspects of physical health care in association with the Royal Free Hospital, North Middlesex Hospital and GPs. • The Specialty doctor will be one of the front-line clinicians, working alongside a Consultant, Higher psychiatric trainee, Nurse medical prescriber, an Alcohol nurse and Titration nurse, a team of recovery workers, complimentary therapist, psychotherapist and trainees, team leaders and managers. We are jointly commissioned service with HumanKind drug and alcohol charity (humankindcharity.org.uk). One-to-one and group recovery sessions are offered.
• The post holder would undertake assessments for opiate substitution initiation, assessment and treatment, assessment of drug and alcohol use, alcohol community detox prescribing and relapse prevention medication prescribing.
• We offer community alcohol detoxes and assessments for inpatient detox and rehab. We have an on-site Pabrinex and Buvidal clinic.
• The post holder will work with the wider team at the Clavering’s and will also work within the rough sleepers pathway. They will act as a reference point for the multi-disciplinary team, taking an active part in ensuring that assessment, treatment, and review procedures are consistent and of high quality. The aim is to promote professional integrated health working with the hardest to reach client populations. As part of this the doctor will have some of the following roles and responsibilities:

• This post is for a 10PA substantive national contract post for a specialty doctor in addiction psychiatry working in an established partnership between Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental health Trust (hitherto BEH) and HumanKind, a third sector organisation. The team base is at The Claverings,12-12a Centre Way, Claverings, Industrial Estate, Edmonton, N9 0AH, with our recovery site at Vincent House, Ponders End.
• Enfield Drug and Alcohol Service is based at two sites, the Claverings and Vincent House. Clients may attend the Claverings or be called via telephone and be triaged the same day by one of our recovery workers.
• Enable offers a full range of drug and alcohol treatment options for our clients. We offer a full range of opiate substitution treatments of methadone or buprenorphine for opiate dependent clients and can offer rapid access to prescribing from first presentation to our service. Clients can be offered instalment prescribing through community pharmacies throughout the borough with supervised consumption as appropriate. We also undertake full physical assessments with on-site blood-borne virus testing and health and well-being assessments. We also provide a Buvidal long acting injection clinic.
• We have an on-site café at our Claverings site which offers clients take-meals as part of their treatment package to encourage engagement. We have outreach workers in the North Middlesex hospital, the IAPT service and we have established links with the community mental health team dual diagnosis service. We also have a GP shared care scheme for stable long-term opiate substitution clients and primary care alcohol outreach.
• We have a Rough sleeper team which work flexibly with the rough sleeping population in Enfield who have drug or alcohol treatment needs. The team have established links with the Enfield borough Homeless support team and also the 3d sector ‘All People All Places’ who provide emergency accommodation and support to people facing homelessness in the London boroughs of Enfield and Haringey. There is a homeless hostel ‘Somewhere Safe to Stay hub’ on the Clavering’s Industrial estate.
• We have established links with prison and criminal justice pathways and actively engage with prison release protocols from prison to insure continuation of opiate substitution treatment.
• BEH are the lead organisation in delivering the service and managing the contract and the post holder will be employed by BEH. The service provide Tier 2, Tier 3 and recovery interventions for clients with problematic drug use. It will also provide access into Tier 4 treatment. The post holder will be supported and supervised by the consultant in substance misuse psychiatry.
• We have onsite Blood borne virus testing, Liver fibroscanning and Hepatitis C outreach treatment in partnership with the Royal Free, Pulmonary rehabilitation groups in partnership with the North Middlesex community respiratory team.
• BEH and C&I NHS Trust have recently entered into a long-term strategic partnership which is now called the North London Mental Health Partnership. For the purposes of payroll, the employing organisation still remains as BEH.
