Summary

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Early Learning and Childcare, you will be part of the senior Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) team leading the largest ELC service in Scotland. As one of a team of three Area Service Managers, plus our Citywide Business Operations Manager, you will promote high quality early learning and childcare across all of the Council and Funded Provider nurseries within one of the city’s three geographical strategic areas. You will be responsible for the line management of Council nursery heads in your area and for supporting quality assurance and improvement across ELC settings. Your role will also include leading on delegated key strategic elements of city wide ELC delivery. You must be able to demonstrate relevant leadership experience in a promoted early year focused role, along with experience of driving forwards quality improvement within nurseries or early stages primary. You should have an in depth understanding of the regulatory requirements and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the ELC sector. To succeed in this role you must bring leadership, energy, and vision, as well as strong stakeholder management. You will be an excellent communicator who can develop and maintain effective working relationships, resolve complex situations, and adopt a solution focussed approach. You will have the ability to inspire others, be forward thinking and thrive in a challenging and demanding environment. Most importantly, you must have at your core, a passion for working with our youngest citizens and their families, addressing inequalities, and ensuring that our services provide children under 5 with the strong foundations needed to support them in later learning and life. You should be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and eligible for registration within the Day Care of Children section of the Scottish Social Services Council or with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme & GTC will be essential on taking up appointment.
