This post provides an opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the expanding Head & Neck team, currently comprising of 16 substantive consultants working within the Departments of ENT, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our existing Head & Neck team and the post holder will be expected to complement the department’s plans for expansion over the next few years. The Head & Neck ward has recently been relocated to a larger ward in the Heart & Lung Centre. This modern area of the Trust is ideally designed for a Head & Neck service with a 4 bay HDU/Observation area and close proximity to Critical Care facilities. The Head & Neck outpatient area has also been recently refurbished with additional clinic rooms and a treatment room to implement office-based procedures.

The post-holder will complement the existing ENT consultant team of 10 across New Cross Hospital, Cannock Hospital and Russell’s Hall Hospital. They will be expected to participate in a 1:8 weekday and 1:14 weekend on call rota. The ENT Surgery department at New Cross has 3 specialist registrars, 2 Associate Specialists, 1 staff grade, 2 Clinical Fellows, 1 BST and 5 junior doctors.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with existing colleagues to build on the existing practice and will be encouraged to engage actively with the further development of the unit. The successful candidates will be given support to develop the office based ambulatory care pathways and other service improvement. The Head & Neck ENT service deals with all aspects of oropharyngeal/neck malignancies and has a full range of support including dedicated CNS nurses, SALT and Dietetics. The new appointees will be actively involved and expected to contribute to departmental governance and audits.
