Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a band 5 paediatric physiotherapist to join our friendly and experienced paediatric physiotherapy team based in Seaside View Child Development Centre, Brighton General Hospital.
The paediatric physiotherapy team provide assessment and treatment of children and young people aged 0-19. We work with children and young people in a variety of settings including the Child Development Centre, family homes, nurseries, mainstream schools and schools for children with additional needs. It is essential that the post holder is able to travel to attend these appointments.
We would like to appoint a physiotherapist who is keen to develop their skills within paediatrics. Experience in the field at undergraduate or post graduate level is essential for this role as it is only 12-month fixed term cover role.
This post will involve the assessment and treatment of a mixed caseload of children and young people with a variety of needs including orthopaedic and normal variants, developmental delay, and supporting children with additional needs at school, nursery or in their own homes. The trust is committed to training and development of all staff, you will be supported to develop your skills within Paediatrics by a team of skilled and experienced clinicians. We have a strong commitment to student education and there will be opportunities to support students on placement with the assistance of another clinician.
To work as a Physiotherapist within a team in Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
a) To manage a caseload of patients with a variety of conditions.
b) To formulate and deliver an individual treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment and reasoning skills.
c) To treat all patients with respect and courtesy, maintaining dignity and respecting individual needs and differences, both physical and cultural.
d) To complete the SCFT Preceptorship programme through regular supervision and professional support (staff in their first year post-qualification).
e) To be involved in the support of Band 2, 3 and 4 staff as well as student education.
f) To take part in and contribute to in-service training and keep your own Personal Development plans up to date.
g)The service covers a range of paediatric conditions including Neuro disability, Orthopaedics, DCD and Developmental Delay.

Working with children and families, 0-19 years of age, with Neuro-developmental conditions, providing input into clinics, client homes, and educational settings (mainstream and special needs, pre-school and school age).
Multi-Disciplinary working alongside Paediatricians, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and the Specialist Nursing team.
Liaison and close working relationship with Education Staff.
Formulate and deliver personalised therapy/treatment programmes for children using a range of specialist assessments, reasoning and treatment skills. This will be based on clear knowledge of evidence-based practise, consideration for their family/social and education requirements and a range of clinical treatment options.
Support the service’s multidisciplinary assessments for motor coordination difficulties (DCD).
Complete standardised assessments and clinical reports. This will include reports towards Education Health Care Plans and Annual Review documentation.
Provide advice and instruction to family members, carers, education staff and other professionals to promote understanding and implementation of treatment/management strategies and enable the child/young person’s physiotherapy needs to be integrated into their daily routines.
Attendance at appropriate meetings.
Delivery of training packages to parents and staff where required.
Be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in accordance with SCFT Information Governance and professional bodies, as well as the supervision of students’ and assistants’ record keeping.The service uses SystmOne Patient record system – training will be provided by the Trust.
Involvement in service development and innovations.
Providing clinical expertise to junior members of staff or other professionals.
To be responsible for maintaining and developing own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
Personal management - to exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance.
