The Exciting Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Job Coach to work within our SEND provision, supporting learners with special educational needs and/or disabilities and Supported Interns to develop the work skills necessary to obtain employment and become independent.

We have partnered with Project SEARCH, Asda and Lancashire County Council to offer a new Supported Internship programme at the Asda Colne store. The successful candidate will be primarily based at Asda in Colne for the 2024-25 academic year. However, there will also be a requirement to travel across sites and to a variety of businesses within East Lancashire as needed.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Supporting high needs learners both within college and in a variety of workplaces by enabling them to develop the independence required to plan for, practice and develop the employability skills, behaviours and attitudes required to succeed.
  • Along with the Supported Internship Trainer, acting as the main point of contact and maintain positive relationships with high needs students, their families, staff and employers to ensure appropriate work placements opportunities are identified and undertaken, responding to queries and concerns as they arise.
  • Ensuring the individual needs of learners are considered and plans of support are implemented to minimise barriers in relation to accessing and undertaking work placements.
  • Providing support and guidance to employers with regards to the workplace reasonable adjustments that are required to support high needs students such as adaptations to recruitment processes e.g. working interviews.
  • Using systematic instruction techniques to support learners / interns to learn practical work skills needed to perform specified job roles.

What We Are Looking For:

  • 4 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above
  • Full Level 3 or Degree Level Qualification
  • Driver’s Licence & access to your own vehicle
  • Experience working with young people who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of people
  • Ability to work with organisational and contractual targets ensuring the needs of learners are met
  • Ability to work on a 1:1 basis with learners
  • Experience of writing professional reports and completing skills assessments
