From system feasibility analyses of engineering problems and solutions to fully incorporated design changes, Babcock support the entire design lifecycle. They are the key component ensuring that the nation's nuclear submarines are available and ensure the nuclear deterrent is always maintained.

The role

As a Project Controls Manager, you will have an exciting and pivotal role in the successful delivery of the Dreadnought Delivery Phase 3 (DP3) contract. Within this role, you will lead on the implementation and management of effective project controls measures relating to scope, cost, time, risk and quality. Utilising these measures, you will enable strategic performance analysis to be undertaken against the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB), highlighting variances, trends and insights needed to inform effective decision making.

Day-to-day, you'll

  • Work closely with the Programme Managers and Control Account Managers whilst leading a team of project controls professionals.
  • You will also develop strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the project team, wider functional teams, suppliers, and the customer MoD.
  • You will be expected to support with on-going development of the Projects Controls capability within the wider Future Submarine Business.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2/3 days in the office/onsite and 2/3 days working from home. This role also operates on a 9-day fortnight working arrangement.

Essential experience of the Project Controls Manager

  • Extensive experience in a PMO position.
  • Awareness of various contracting methodologies (e.g., Estimate Based Fee, Fixed Price, NEC etc).
  • Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out.
  • Have good knowledge of PMO toolsets and the integration of these.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external staff, at all levels within the Submarine Enterprise, including senior management.

Qualifications for the Project Controls Manager

  • Hold a Project Management Qualification such as Association for Project Management.
  • Ideally degree qualified in a relevant discipline with relevant experience or HNC/HND qualified.
