Contract Type: Temporary Initially for 3 months, Full-time (36 hours per week)

Working Hours: 09:00 - 17:30

About the Role:

Are you passionate about safeguarding public health and ensuring community wellbeing? Barnet Council is seeking a dedicated Public Protection Officer specializing in Public Health & Noise Nuisance. This is an interim role designed to cover sickness leave, where you will play a crucial part in maintaining high standards of environmental health within the borough.

Key Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to service requests relating to noise and nuisance, ensuring compliance with environmental health standards.
Investigate and resolve complaints, including those outside of regular hours, collaborating with other teams when necessary.
Assist in preparing and enforcing legal notices under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related legislation.
Provide expert advice to the public and businesses on environmental health issues.
Gather evidence for enforcement actions and represent the Council in legal proceedings when required.
Maintain accurate records of all investigations and actions, ensuring transparency and compliance with legal frameworks.
Participate in projects aimed at improving service delivery and support the Noise and Nuisance Team in various initiatives.
About You:

A degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience in environmental health, noise, or nuisance control.
Strong knowledge of environmental health legislation, with experience in enforcement actions.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to handle complex and sensitive issues effectively.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office and specialist data management systems.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
