Summary


We are inviting applicants for the post of clinical fellow in the Manchester Mesh Complications service in which they will learn to manage women with complications of polypropylene mesh inserted for prolapse or urinary incontinence. The Manchester Mesh Service is one of the largest services in the UK and there will be the opportunity to develop skills in the management of the full range of mesh complications. Candidates should have urogynaecology or female urology and be highly motivated to undertake a career in either of these subspecialties.

This is a trust-funded post for a clinical fellowship of 1 year duration. There is no on call associated with this post, however, there are usually many opportunities to cover locum on call shifts at weekends or evenings, but not night shifts.

The Clinical Fellow will be supervised by a team of consultants working at the Manchester Mesh Complications Centre. The Clinical Fellow will need to respect the roles of others within a multidisciplinary team and communicate with them appropriately.

The weekly timetable will vary from week to week. It will include sessions in outpatients, theatre and ward rounds, or other specialist sessions e.g translabial scanning.

The Clinical Fellow should

· Instigate the initial investigation and management of women with complications of polypropylene mesh

· Maintain the mesh clinical database for all women attending the centre

· Facilitate a clinic to review all women who have undergone surgery for complications of polypropylene mesh

· Demonstrate good communication with patients and staff

· Liaise with theatre and anaesthetic staff when arranging the theatre cases.
• • Observe, assist or undertake procedures in theatre with an appropriate level of supervision
