About this role: This role is a rare and exciting opportunity to operate at a national level and have a demonstrable impact on the governance and policy environment for universities. This is a high-profile role and you will work with and deliver CUC member services to Chairs of University Governing bodies across the UK.

The CUC is a charity hosted by the University of the West of England (UWE). We are the membership body for Chairs of University Governing bodies and your role will be to provide Chairs with policy advice and guidance. You will draft responses to government consultations and lead on project planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation.

In particular, you will play a critical role in managing the CUC’s annual Vice-Chancellors Salary Survey, ensuring a smooth transition to the new software provider, clearly communicating and regularly engaging with survey users in universities, chairs, and other project stakeholders to report on progress, foster trust and credibility, and ensure the project’s continued success.

You will also provide support to CUC Networks, Regional Committees, and Plenaries and be responsible for drafting agendas, writing reports, compiling and proofreading documents, producing auditable minutes from meetings, and ensuring agreed-upon actions are delivered.

This new role is an opportunity to join a small, well-respected, and ambitious organisation that promotes and develops the highest governance standards in the UK's higher education sector. Your work will be essential in ensuring we continue to meet the growing expectations of CUC members and the challenges facing UK HE while maintaining high service standards and ensuring members receive the best possible experience when interacting with us. As a Policy and Governance Projects Coordinator, you will have the chance to work closely with stakeholders and leaders across the higher education sector

About you: To fill this role, we are looking for someone who is a skilled communicator, highly organised, detail-focused, flexible and can work autonomously. You should also be someone who is discreet and understands the importance of confidentiality.

Where is this role based?

All CUC staff work remotely. However, you can hot desk at the University if you chose to do so. Hotdesking will be available at UWE’s Frenchay campus where the University has invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both staff and students access to everything they need to succeed.

UWE is one of the largest providers of Higher Education in the South West with 38,000 students and 4,000 staff from right across the globe. Based in Bristol, one of the UK’s most exciting and forward-thinking cities, UWE is regionally embedded and globally connected, with an established network of employer and academic partners.

While you work for the CUC you will still be a UWE employee and benefit from UWE terms and conditions. UWE offers a wide range of employee benefits including progressive pay rates, generous annual leave and career average pension schemes as well as retail savings, onsite nursery and opportunities for training and personal development.

Applications from Black, Asian, or racially minoritised candidates are encouraged as the University is currently underrepresented in this area of the organisation. However, all appointments are made strictly on individual merit.

As a Disability Confident employer, UWE welcomes applications from those who identify as having a disability.
