Summary

The Recruitment Co are currently working with a large Public Sector body who specialise in Agri-Food and Bio sciences.

We are currently recruiting for a AO to join the diagnostic virology team.

Main Duties

DSIB virology provides a statutory and diagnostic service for DAERA, the farming community and commercial customers, testing samples received for the presence of viruses, viral antibodies, suspect epizootic diseases and notifiable diseases including Johne's disease. The DSIB virology section is also an approved designated laboratory for testing bovine tissue samples for the presence of BVDV as part of the BVD virus eradication programmes in the Republic of Ireland & Scotland where testing is compulsory, and in Northern Ireland where testing is currently voluntary but is expected to become compulsory during 2015. The unit is also involved in co-ordinating, administering and providing testing and advice under the CHECS Cattle Health Scheme.

The duties of the post are likely to include the following:

  • Dealing with telephone and email enquiries
  • Checking, scanning and renaming submission forms from vets
  • Creating individual animal and accreditation certificates
  • Creating invoice statements for clients using Excel package
  • Processing new Cattle Health Scheme applications
  • Compiling stationery orders
  • Sending requests for samples to lab contact list

This list is not exclusive and the successful candidate will be required to carry out other duties as allocated by management.

Essential Criteria

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's including a science subject
  • A general science background would be beneficial
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment would be beneficial
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Computer skills including Word, Outlook and Excel
