Crynodeb

Police Dogs are deployed to provide special policing capability across the Force in a variety of roles and in support of a wide range of policing operations and are routinely tasked with locating offenders, locating evidence, the prevention and deterrence of crime and tackling of disorder.

The core role involves the training and operating of a General-Purpose Dog used for tracking and locating suspects, vulnerable people, and property. Further training and development enable Handlers to also operate a Specialist Search Dog with specific item or substance location training.

Gwent Police Dog Handlers work closely with their RPSO colleagues to deliver specialist operational policing services 24/7 to the communities of Gwent.

This varied and much sought after role requires officers to undergo extensive specialist training and develop a unique partnership with their dogs. This role will build on your current skill base, putting you at the centre of the most interesting and crucial policing operations both within Gwent and on mutual deployment elsewhere in the UK. Both handler and dog will be trained within Force and at other Police Dog Training centres of excellence to develop the requisite skills and knowledge to perform the role.
