Summary
The role of the preterm birth midwife is crucial in directing the advancement of care and management pathways for women and birthing individuals at a heightened risk of preterm delivery. The successful candidate will engage in a collaborative approach with the consultant team specialising in preterm births and other members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve the essential objectives aimed at reducing the incidence of preterm births. Additionally, this position allows the opportunity to operate independently within the preterm antenatal clinic, prioritising the familys experience as a central aspect of the service. For those passionate about enhancing safety and outcomes in preterm births and who possess the requisite clinical expertise, this role presents an excellent opportunity to further improve their skills. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, both clinically and professionally, and be committed to providing safe, personalised care to women, birthing individuals, and their families. The role requires flexibility to deliver clinical care across various shifts, including nights and weekends. In this essential role you will: Have an in-depth knowledge of national and local guidelines essential in developing this service. Have experience in audit and monitoring outcomes. Have a good understanding of perinatal mortality and morbidity outcomes for this group. Be able to develop pathways to support our colleagues and our families. To plan, assess and evaluate full programme of individualised care needs. Be the midwifery link for prevention of preterm birth. Work autonomously within NMC, National Standards. Support national drivers including Saving Babies Lives Reducing Pre-Term Birth. Provide leadership for this service. Participate with education and training to midwives who are caring for families who are at risk of preterm birth. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure all aspects of the preterm birth service are monitored and managed effectively. Deliver quality improvements within this service. Lead on audits that are appropriate to the service. Engage when appropriate at a regional level with preterm birth best practice and learning.
