Summary

The Gastroenterology service at Imperial Collage NHS Trust is advertising for two locum full-time Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine for St Mary’s/ Charing Cross Hospital or Hammersmith / Charing Cross Hospital.

The Gastroenterology Department aims to provide a comprehensive service for patients with gastroenterological problems whilst being fully committed to developing, teaching, training and research at all levels. A full service is provided on the three sites. The Department is closely integrated with the Department of Hepatology at St Mary’s Hospital and the Department of Pancreatic/Biliary Medicine at the Hammersmith. There are inpatient beds, outpatient clinics and endoscopy units on each site. Services are provided for patients from diverse social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and from a wide geographical area.

The endoscopy units at ICHT provide extensive diagnostic and therapeutic interventional services. All units are JAG accredited. The post may involve the provision of endoscopy on any of the three sites. Endoscopy services include upper and lower GI endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, ERCP, EUS and luminal stenting. The Trust also provides HALO radiofrequency ablation for high grade dysplasia/early malignancy in Barrett’s oesophagus, single balloon small bowel enteroscopy, digital SPYGLASS cholangioscopy and EUS services for upper GI and Hepato-biliary cases. The Trust is a National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme provider.

There is a requirement to maintain and enhance the clinical service in Gastroenterology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). In addition, changes in the configuration of surgical services have created a need for further therapeutic endoscopy services. The post holder will contribute to the General Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services based mainly at St Mary’s Hospital, with the potential to join either the GI bleed on call service (cross-site) or the Acute Medicine on-call rota at St Mary’s Hospital (by negotiation). This is a result of changes in job plans of existing members of the department and to support growth in clinical activity.

While any applicant will need to be independent at upper and lower GI endoscopy, other sub-specialty interests to complement those within the department will be encouraged.
