Summary
A Divisional structure operates within the Trust and there are four divisions led by a Management Team comprising a Divisional Director, Head of Nursing, General Manager, Finance Business Partner and HR Business Partner. The Divisions are: Division of Family Health Division of Integrated Medicine Division of Surgery Division of Clinical Support Services The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department has vacancies for Trust Doctors (Core Trainee level). These are fixed term contracts (LAS) up to 3rd September 2024 The provision of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services for Rotherham, Doncaster and Worksop is delivered from the OMFS departments at Rotherham General Hospital and Mexborough Montagu Hospital, Doncaster. All acute operating and elective major operating takes place at Rotherham General Hospital. Day surgery services, out-patient Minor Oral Surgery operating, and out-patient clinics are delivered on both sites. The Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) will spend the majority of their time at Rotherham General Hospital, but will also rotate to Mexborough Montagu Hospital, where they will attend out-patient clinics and day surgery theatres, according to a rolling timetable. Clinical duties of the Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level): Attendance at Day Surgery and In-Patient theatre operating lists. Assistance in the operating theatre. Attendance at Minor Oral Surgery local anaesthetic operating sessions. Attendance at OMFS out-patient clinics (there is also scope for trainees to attend Orthodontic clinics according to their individual training needs or wishes). Assessment and initial management of patients referred to the OMFS department from A+E, GDPs, GPs, and other hospital departments. Clerking of patients for theatre. Management of OMFS in-patients on the wards. The Maxillofacial Surgery Unit undertakes a wide range of treatments. Of particular value to the Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) is that they will have ample opportunity in this post to gain exposure to dentoalveolar surgery under both local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic. The Trust Dental Surgeon (Core level) will be encouraged to carry out Minor Oral Surgery as appropriate to their level of experience, with senior advice and supervision available at all times. The department treats a large volume of maxillofacial trauma. In addition to the routine management of trauma the consultants in the department are experienced in the use of up-to-date techniques such as endoscopically assisted fixation of fractures of the mandibular condyle, and orbital reconstruction using custom-made orbital implants. Approximately 350 emergency cases are operated on in the department per year. Special interests within the department are head and neck cancer surgery, salivary gland surgery (including the management of salivary gland calculi using sialoendoscopy), orthognathic surgery, the surgical management of skin cancers of the head and neck, and implant surgery. Patients with head and neck mucosal malignancy are diagnosed in the departments at Rotherham and Mexborough, with all major Head and Neck cancer surgery operating carried out at the Head and Neck Cancer surgical centre at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. The Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) has the opportunity included in their timetable to attend the Head and Neck operating sessions at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital along with Mr Patterson. The posts require the occupant to provide on call services, and to be resident in the hospital during on call periods: a free on call room will be provided. Whilst on call the Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) is based at Rotherham General Hospital. The on call shifts are determined by an 8-week rolling rota. There is on call middle grade support for the junior staff provided by the 5 StRs in the region. The post has the required educational and Postgraduate Deans approval. The Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) will be assigned an Educational Supervisor on starting in the post, and must sign an educational contract and show commitment to further education. The Trust Doctor (Core Trainee level) is expected to keep a comprehensive ePDP portfolio up to date, and to complete Supervised Learning Events throughout their training in this post. They will have access to the Deanery training and study days, which they will be required to attend, will have a portfolio with the RCP and will be supported by HEE YH with an 'equivalence to Completion of DCT' certificate assuming they fulfil all the criteria of competencies and time in post of 10 months or more There is a strong commitment to teaching from the senior staff in the department, and a weekly teaching session is held within the department. There are bimonthly Audit / Clinical Effectiveness meetings which are held in Rotherham. The Trust Dental Surgeon (Core level) will be encouraged to complete an audit project every 6 months and will receive assistance and guidance with this. Presentation of audit and research projects at regional and national meetings is encouraged. Rotherham Hospital has an excellent postgraduate medical education and clinical skills department.
