Summary
This Clinical Research Fellowship is suitable for a candidate with a medical degree, an appropriate level of ophthalmology experience and an interest in genetic and vision research. The post is open for the successful candidate to register for an MPhil with the University of Manchester. The fellow will gain experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment through close liaison with the clinical teams (genomic ophthalmology; medical retina; paediatric ophthalmology; clinical and molecular genetics), the imaging department, and the research department.
There is funding for a full-time post, but some parts of the job plan may be flexible and can finalised before commencement of employment, following discussions between the supervising team and the successful applicant.
The post holder will be overall responsible to the Clinical Head of Division but will be managed on a day-to-day basis by clinical/research supervisors (Black / Sergouniotis).
The focus of the post will be research, and the postholder is expected to spend time recruiting research participants, taking consent, carrying out ophthalmic examination, organising investigations, collecting/analysing genetic and phenotypic data, and writing manuscripts. The postholder will be required to run research clinics and to contribute to ophthalmic genetic clinics. The fellow will receive support from the Ophthalmic Genetic team (which includes 3 consultants, 5 genetic counsellors and an ECLO), a senior clinical research practitioner (focusing on ophthalmic research) and a dedicated research ophthalmic science practitioner.
