Summary

Looking for a diverse role working with trees?

Looking for a role that will continue to develop with you, without boundaries?

At Beddow Tree Specialists we have a multi-faceted role that will offer exceptional variety in day to day work.

Woodland management – We currently manage 70 acres of national forest for environmental purposes. However, as part of this management we need to thin the woodlands. Currently we operate low impact machinery to minimise disruption to the woodland. We do have heavy horses so if working with Horses in woodlands is of interest then this is a possibility. As we develop this work, we will look to expand this service.

Working with diggers, compact tractors, trenchers, crane trailers, small and large tele-handlers.

As part of the Woodland Management we utilise the timber in house for firewood sales. This Starts with timber extraction via tractor, through the firewood processor, loading and unloading drying floors and finishes with deliveries of logs via a crane vehicle.

Stump grinding – we operate a number of different stump grinding machines which complete jobs undertaken by the tree surgery section. Stump grinding and the maintenance of the machines is considered a specialist area. We have bespoke vehicles for our variety of machines.

Maintenance manager – A basic mechanical knowledge for undertaking simple tasks such as blade changes on wood chippers, repairs and maintenance of stump grinders, bulb changes on vehicles, oil change on small engines, filter changes, telehandler lubrication, etc. The scope of mechanical work will only be limited by skill set of the candidate.

Biomass management, maintenance of the biomass boiler (basics only). The boiler provides the heat for drying the logs and heating the workshop. It also is intrinsic to the recycling of waste from the tree surgery side of the business.

Yard management – pushing up woodchip and log piles with telehandler, ensuring a working areas are kept in a professional manner.

We are looking for a lead person for the role with the target within the next 6-12mths of bringing a second person into this section of the business as a sub-ordinate of the initial role. This will allow time for training and experience to develop in the role before having the extra burden of increased responsibility.

Skills required for the role:

1. Role will require someone capable of organising and working alone, communicating directly with the director and as part of a team working alongside the tree surgery crews.

2. Capable of managing others as the section increases in size.

3. The role would suit somebody that is physically fit and enjoys manual work.

4. Capable of undertaking basic mechanical work.

5. Good organisational skills and ability to work in quick response to unexpected situations.

6. Good driving skills of vehicles and plant / equipment.

7. Keen interest in trees, woodlands and environmental practices.

As with all roles at Beddow Tree Specialists we are looking for the right person that will offer the best long-term fit in the team. So training and development is expected to tailor any candidates skill set.
