The Kent Interventional Radiology Centre, a purpose-built unit at the Kent and Canterbury site, fitted with the latest Siemens Artis Pheno angiography system with robotic assistance, full anaesthetic facilities and a dedicated 6-bedded Day Case Unit opened in May 2022. The unit supports the regional reconfiguration of Vascular services.

It runs alongside a hybrid Endovascular Theatre which has been fully refurbished and updated with a Siemens Artis system. The Trust plans to open a third imaging suite, fitted with a Siemens Icono unit, by June 2024 in order to support the delivery of the regional Stroke Thrombectomy service.

The Radiology department is a large and successful department with 5 CT scanners and 5 MRI scanners with mobile MRI and CT increasing capacity further. The Trust has recently introduced two SPECT/CT units in Nuclear Medicine.

This post is for an Interventional Radiologist with specialised training in Stroke Thrombectomy. The successful candidate should be able to independently perform mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel
occlusion in acute stroke patients. The candidate should also be trained in Vascular and Non-Vascular Radiology, including EVAR and peripheral intervention. There is a thriving practice in non-oncological embolotherapy including uterine artery embolization, prostate artery embolization, varicocele embolization and treatment of pelvic congestion. The Kent and Canterbury Hospital is the hub for Kent wide Vascular inpatient services and brings many opportunities to develop special clinical and research interests
