You’ll need to be comfortable with complexity and ambiguity while moving products forward, often with tight deadlines. A role in the Lab means ‘no blueprints’ ways of working – we’re inventing the new. We’re looking for a real self-starter to discover, define, develop and deliver world class, new to world products.

You will be responsible for

In this role, you will be driven to deliver innovative products and inspire others to do the same. You’ll be a natural problem solver, who is outcome-oriented, innately curious and an excellent collaborator with strong communication. You will need to balance creativity with being data driven, demonstrating experience of applying robust methodology throughout product discovery and delivery.

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Have complete ownership of complex products, involving multiple internal/external stakeholders.
  • Formulate and execute the vision, strategy and roadmap for the set of products I manage, aligning this with strategic priorities.
  • Accountable for identifying the key measures of success (OKRs) and the resulting performance / adoption of my product(s)
  • Quickly build market knowledge and assess new product opportunities.
  • Work alongside research, design, analytics, data science and engineering teams to design and develop solutions to solve real business needs.
  • Lead discovery workshops, identifying disruptive and creative opportunities for innovation.
  • Relentlessly seek to understand the needs and pains of your product users and business stakeholders.
  • Prioritise efficiently, decisively resolving trade-offs with peers and senior leaders.
  • Communicate clearly, working with the HoP to make tough decisions around the future direction of any given, experiment/proof of concept/trial/product.
  • Relentlessly measure and communicate value built to all stakeholders, all the time.
  • Plan and co-ordinate significant product efforts that have dependencies on multiple product and engineering teams.
  • Identify and drive improvements to the way in which product performance and service levels are measured to ensure product quality, reliability and security.
  • Work as part of a wider product team, with a culture for shared goals, helping where appropriate as the need arises.

You will need

  • Effectively worked with senior stakeholders outside of their immediate product team to market the product and gather feedback and new requirements.
  • Have proven success in working on unstructured problems, defining hypothesis, creating MVPs, running experiments and analysing results to make data-driven decisions.
  • Taken an idea from conception to go-live, through software product development lifecycles, with measurable success across defined outcomes.
  • Good domain expertise in the relevant functional area/a large complex domain.
  • A methodical/ analytical approach and great problem-solving skills.
  • Attitude and the aptitude to learn new product area/domain quickly.
  • Strong decision making and prioritisation skills, especially when multiple trade-offs are involved and faster decisions are required.
  • Supplier management and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, writing effective user stories/ acceptance criterions.
  • Understanding of User Research/ Design Thinking concepts.
