Role Overview:
As a Customs Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth customs operations across the company, predominantly for UK/EU trade. You'll lead a team of two supply chain / customs professionals, overseeing import/export processes, compliance and duty calculations. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, with three days in the office and two days working from home.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Line manage a team of two customs professionals across two sites, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Customs and Trade Compliance:
- Oversee all aspects of customs and trade compliance.
- Anticipate and communicate the impact and risks of developing regulations on the business.
- Ensure adherence to customs regulations and trade laws across various countries, with a specific focus on the UK and EU.
- Facilitate the smooth movement of goods while minimising risk and optimising duty and tax implications.
- Communicate the impact of developing regulations to relevant stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with logistics, supply chain, and legal teams to optimise customs processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
Strategic Guidance:
- Advise senior management on customs-related matters.
- Develop and implement customs strategies aligned with business goals.
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- 5+ years of hands-on customs experience, preferably within a manufacturing context.
- International trade business acumen including tariff classifications, customs valuation, licence management etc
- Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, excise duties, and trade compliance
- Knowledge of customs warehousing and IPR regulations
- Experience of working with SAP ideally
- Familiarity with customs software and systems.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
