Role Overview:
As a Customs Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth customs operations across the company, predominantly for UK/EU trade. You'll lead a team of two supply chain / customs professionals, overseeing import/export processes, compliance and duty calculations. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, with three days in the office and two days working from home.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:

  • Line manage a team of two customs professionals across two sites, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.


Customs and Trade Compliance:

  • Oversee all aspects of customs and trade compliance.
  • Anticipate and communicate the impact and risks of developing regulations on the business.
  • Ensure adherence to customs regulations and trade laws across various countries, with a specific focus on the UK and EU.
  • Facilitate the smooth movement of goods while minimising risk and optimising duty and tax implications.
  • Communicate the impact of developing regulations to relevant stakeholders.


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with logistics, supply chain, and legal teams to optimise customs processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.


Strategic Guidance:

  • Advise senior management on customs-related matters.
  • Develop and implement customs strategies aligned with business goals.


To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • 5+ years of hands-on customs experience, preferably within a manufacturing context.
  • International trade business acumen including tariff classifications, customs valuation, licence management etc
  • Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, excise duties, and trade compliance
  • Knowledge of customs warehousing and IPR regulations
  • Experience of working with SAP ideally
  • Familiarity with customs software and systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
