A Vacancy at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

The Digital Learning Platforms Assistant will supports the Digital Learning Platforms Manager in maintaining the platforms that deliver and record learning, training, and workforce development.

The Digital Learning Platforms Assistant supports with the day-to-day administration, development and helpdesk management of the Trust’s LMS (Learning Management System), branded LEAP and currently built on Totara.

The postholder will have experience configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining complex platforms, or show clear aptitude in this area, and will be able to liaise where necessary with internal and external stakeholders, including the externally contracted Totara platform provider that manages the system.

The postholder should have enough digital skill to manage the front-end of an online platform, and enough interest in education to work in a team delivering training and learning (including e-learning). They should be able to contribute both to customer service and to IT service delivery.

This function is now split into two part time positions at 0.5 FTE, but the role and requirements for the two postholders are the same, as outlibed here. These two “job share” postholders will be likely to work together on some tasks, and will certainly need to cooperate with each other and within a wider team.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Delivery:
• Set up and maintain Totara structures (courses, certifications, audiences, activities) to deliver training provision.
• Liaise with SMEs, managers, and trainers regarding use of these Totara structures.
• Formatting content for online display on a web platform (Totara).
• Contribute to the analysis of training/learning requirements to identify which Totara structures to use for a particular area.
• Contribute to documentation for these digital learning solutions, and signpost users to it.

Helpdesk and Support:
• Deliver support in the helpdesk management platform (currently Zendesk) on a day-to-day basis.
• Support and advise administration staff in responding to user queries to the helpdesk management platform.
• Liaise with and support the training administration staff in the use of the LMS (Totara ) and other online platforms.
• Respond to queries and update standard template responses to common queries.
• Update frequently asked questions, guides, and user tours.

Platform Setup:
• Assist with developing and implementing online tools to support training, appraisal, CPD, and supervision.

SLaM employs around 5000 staff and serves a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services.

About Education and Development

Now sitting within the Maudsley Learning team, the Education and Development department delivers training within the Trust, focusing not only on mandatory and statutory training requirements, but also on CPD and Apprenticeship provision.

About Maudsley Learning:

Maudsley Learning is an innovative workforce development team within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, part of one of the world’s most renowned mental healthcare organisations. Our mission is to improve people’s lives through the highest quality mental health and wellbeing education.

This person will play an important role in the delivery of systems and processes that improve the quality of education and development information and compliance, ensuring staff across the Trust are equipped with the right skills to deliver safe patient care and support services, and can grow their careers.

The postholder will support the continuous improvement of the platform as well as lead pioneering approaches to digital adoption. They will spend roughly 50% of their time setting up and maintaining Totara structures (courses, certifications, audiences and activities), liaising with stakeholders, analysing requirements, and contributing to documentation. 40% of their time will be spent supporting users and solving issues. Up to 10% of their time will be spent developing and implementing online tools or data analysis to support areas such as training, CPD applications and supervision.

Band 5 roles require expertise within a specialism or discipline. This postholder should be interested in maintaining or developing their career in learning technology and/or with platforms delivering learning (often called LMSs, VLEs) or similar. The role covers both the technical delivery of such platforms (software, configuration, data) and the business side (facilitating their use for actual work requirements).
