Summary


The post holder will be part of the NHS HMR Talking Therapies service which provides the NICE recommended psychological therapies for depression and the anxiety disorders. The role is to manage and support a team of EAs providing employment support for people gaining, returning to, or staying in work.


The postholder will work with people that are unemployed and/or have challenges with their current employment, to help them plan a route into meaningful/better employment. They will identify support mechanisms with Employers, Education and Training services, Employment Support Services and Third Sector Organisations for people with a mental health problem who are seeking employment. They will promote the service by working with employment and training agencies and assist with the collection of data and service KPIs.



To support people with common mental health problems to gain, return to or retain employment

To work directly with Job Centre Plus, employers, trade unions and employment agencies to keep people in employment and to secure employment opportunities.

To lead and manage a team of EAs, ensuring the effective delivery of employment-related interventions.

To lead a team of EAs on recruitment, performance, and work allocation.


To hold and manage budget for the local EA project.

To prepare training materials and to lead training sessions involving clinical and non-clinical staff.


To complete further training in vocational work, careers advice, job retention and presenteeism as necessary.


To implement policies and to propose changes to practices for own area and to update procedures.


To be an active member of the Talking Therapies Senior Team by raising the importance of good work on people’s mental health and to gain support from clinicians/managers to ensure good rates of referrals.


To carry appropriate leadership responsibilities including the supervision of EAs, meeting KPIs and problem solving as necessary

Leadership and Management


• To uphold leadership responsibilities including the supervision of EAs,
meeting of targets and problem in addition to holding a small caseload.
• To support and promote the use of employment interventions and provide a service focused on the aspirations of the person.
• To conduct an assessment, discuss job goals and concerns regarding capacity for work.
• To match job tasks to an individual’s ability and any solutions that may be required to develop the match.
• To refer to other support if there are complex barriers.
• To agree an action plan with steps to return to/retain employment.
• To develop knowledge of the local labour market and support, including specialist schemes to help with retaining or finding employment.
• To work closely with local agencies to identify appropriate job vacancies.
• To advocate on behalf of clients with prospective employers if necessary, identifying work solutions that will minimise difficulties in the workplace.
• To signpost the person to other agencies in the statutory and voluntary sectors who are able to provide advice.
• To provide personalised support after an individual has returned to work or secured employment to help them to sustain employment.
• To build and to develop strong relationships between employers and other agencies to support delivery of a personalised client-focused service.
• To provide a service which is non-discriminatory in terms of age, gender,
sexuality, ethnicity, neurodiversity, and disability.

• To support the Talking Therapies clinical team in making appropriate referrals before a referral is considered.
• To liaise with primary and secondary care mental health services and social care departments.
• To ensure that clients' progress measures are completed, including minimum data set and clinical records for each interaction.
• To manage interruptions to deal with staffing or project issues.
• To assist in the development and delivery of high quality, accurate, relevant, and timely client records to support performance monitoring.
• To produce data reports to support the quality improvement process.
• To work with clinical and non-clinical staff to contribute to KPIs, activity, and compliance targets.

• To undertake any other reasonable duty appropriate to the band when requested by Senior Staff.

Standards of Business Conduct


• The postholder will be required to comply with the organisation's standing order and standing financial instructions and to deal honestly with colleagues, patients, relatives and suppliers.
• The postholder must ensure that their behaviour and interests inside and
outside work do not conflict with their Trust position, duties and/or
responsibilities.
• The postholder must comply with and support the development of
performance standards within the service to ensure the service is responsive to/meets the needs of its patients.
• The postholder will be required to develop and maintain good working
relationships with all patients, service users and where appropriate, members of the public.
• The Trust aims to maintain the good will and confidence of its own staff,
patients, service users, NHS contractors and the general public. To assist in
achieving this objective it is essential that at all times, the postholder carries out their duties in a courteous, sympathetic and professional manner.
• All postholders who are members of a professional body must comply with standards of professional practice / conduct. It is the post holders’
responsibilities to ensure they are both familiar with and adhere to these
requirements and maintain their professional membership to the relevant
body.

Safeguarding


• Appointments require an enhanced DBS disclosure.
• All staff have a responsibility to promote the welfare of any child, young
person or vulnerable adult they come into contact with and in cases where
there are safeguarding concerns, to act upon them and protect the individual from harm.
• All staff should refer any safeguarding issues to their manager and escalate accordingly in line with the Trust Child and Adult Safeguarding Policies.
• All staff should familiarise themselves with the NICE Guidelines “when to
suspect child maltreatment 2009.”


Professional and Personal Development


• The post holder must attend the Trust Mandatory Training and Induction Programme.
• The postholder will be involved in an annual appraisal with their manager every 12 months, and to work to performance / training objectives in order to maintain progress in service delivery.
• The postholder will be expected to take responsibility for their own
professional development and will be supported by the Trust to achieve
development opportunities as appropriate.


Confidentiality and Information Governance


• In the normal course of duties, the post holder will have access to confidential documents and information relating to patients, service users, staff and contractors, as well as information of a commercially sensitive nature. Such information should not be communicated to anyone outside or inside the NHS unless done in the normal course of carrying out the duties of the post. Disciplinary action will be considered where a breach of confidence has been established.
• All information obtained or held during the post-holders period of employment that relates to the business of the Trust and its service users and employees will remain the property of the Trust. Information may be subject to disclosure under legislation at the Trust’s discretion and in line with national rules on exemption.
• The post holder must maintain high standards of quality in corporate and
clinical record keeping ensuring information is always recorded accurately,
appropriately and kept up to date. The post holder must only access
information, whether paper, electronic or in other media, which is authorised to them as part of their duties.
• The post holder must work to the requirements of data protection laws as applicable to the UK, which includes the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).


Health and Safety at Work


• The post holder is required to take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with the Trust in adhering to statutory and departmental safety regulations.
• The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they do not intentionally or recklessly misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare e.g. misuse of equipment.
• The post holder is required to contribute to the control of risk and must report immediately, using the Trust Incident reporting system, any incident, accident or near miss involving patients, service users, carers, staff, contractors or members of the public.
• All Trust sites have been designated a no smoking area. The post holder is
therefore advised smoking is not permitted within the hospital premises or
grounds or whilst representing the Trust in the course of their duty. While the Trust will not discriminate against employing smokers, all prospective
employees should be aware of this policy.


Infection Control


• Infection Prevention and Control is the responsibility of all Trust staff.
• All staff members have a responsibility to protect service users, visitors and employees against the risk of acquiring health care associated infections by consistently observing Trust Infection Prevention and Control Policies and procedures and best practice guidance in order to maintain high standards of Infection Prevention and Control.
