Babcock's Submarine Support Engineering unit is the industry leader in providing engineering and program support to the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), ensuring the safety of submariners at sea. Our mission is to collaborate within the submarine enterprise to deliver engineering and program outputs that support the successful in-service submarine program. The Submarine Operations Centre, a joint Babcock/SDA team, leverages the combination of our knowledge and experience with ever improving digital tools and information to improve the management of submarine maintenance requirements and the development of maintenance projects to support effective operations delivered by our waterfront project and delivery teams.

The role
As a Submarine Operations Centre Lead, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This prestigious position puts you at the forefront of ensuring smooth operation and continuous improvement of critical submarine maintenance and projects. You will be central to the execution and continued future development of the joint Submarine Operations Centre capability. Your leadership will directly contribute to the safety and effectiveness of submarine operations, solidifying your reputation as a key pillar in the national submarine maintenance strategy.

Day to day, you'll be embedded with the SDA's Submarine Platform Managers and will be responsible for:

  • Providing and presenting complex programme and engineering data analysis to enable collaborative decision-making, driving enterprise performance improvement.
  • You will lead critical Submarine Operations Centre planning and co-ordination activities, identifying Issues & Actions affecting certainty of delivery of the submarine programme.
  • You will provide critical advice to key stakeholders whilst being supported by project and engineering teams conducting key engineering and programme analysis.

This role is full time , 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3-4 days in the office/onsite between our Bristol Business Park office in Stoke Gifford and MoD Abbeywood in Filton, North Bristol.

On occasion, the business may demand extra input and your dedication during these times will ensure the continued success of our operation and will reinforce your pivotal role within the team.

Essential experience of the Submarine Operations Centre Lead:

  • Knowledge of submarine in-service support arrangements
  • Proven senior stakeholder management experience
  • Knowledge and experience of project lifecycle delivery
  • Experience in a project management position
  • Knowledge of governance and quality processes

Qualifications for the Submarine Operations Centre Lead

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering / project / construction management or equivalent experience
  • Ideally, you will be a member of a relevant institution and hold or working towards Chartered or Incorporated status in project management or engineering
