REPORTS TO: Young Carer Team Manager
SALARY: £27,172-£28,188
HOURS: Monday 12 noon – 8pm (including ½ hour unpaid break)
Tuesday 12 noon – 8pm (including ½ hour unpaid break)
Wednesday 9.30am – 5.30pm (including ½ hour unpaid break)
Thursday 9.00am – 5.30pm (including ½ hour unpaid break)
Friday 9.00am – 4pm (including ½ hour unpaid break)
School Holidays:
Monday to Friday hours will be worked between 9am and 5.30pm.
Who are we looking for…?
We are looking for a creative and energetic individual, with experience of working with children and young people in a variety of settings. They will have a good knowledge of children’s safeguarding and have experience of using this in practice. The successful candidate will have great team leadership, communication and organisational skills, demonstrating a strong ability to working sensitively with children and young people aged 6 – 18 years of age and their families.
What will the successful applicant be doing…?
Developing and delivering a full programme of face to face activities, to meet the needs of Young Carers. They will be responsible for creating all the activity sessions, ensuring all the resources and materials required for the sessions are sourced and set out before each activity. The activities will take place during term time and during the school holidays. The aim of the programme is to help Young Carers develop a set of emotional and social capabilities so that they achieve in education, feel confident and build on their resilience which will help them when they reach adulthood.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To create/plan an activities programme which is appealing to all ages with an emphasis on having fun, enabling peer support, developing friendships and an opportunity for them to learn new skills and build on their confidence.
• Attending and hosting activities both during term time and during the school holidays (which will be out of office hours/infrequent weekends/residential trips - approximately 3 times per year), completing risk assessments for all activities.
• To research and manage effectively a budget to provide the most cost effective activities to maximise the number of breaks we can offer our Young Carers.
• To source and apply for funding which will be used for to support the activity sessions & residential breaks, completing application forms, evaluation and monitoring reports as and when required.
• To record accurately and timely contacts and case notes.
• To monitor attendance and non-attendance data on a regular basis.
• To follow up on those Young Carers who are not attending activities to establish the reason for their dis-engagement and refer onto the appropriate team if they require Carer Support.
• To create an activities timetable which will be advertised in our regular Young Carers newsletters and online so that Young Carers/families can view what is on offer and book onto the sessions.
• To work with external partner agencies, tapping into local initiatives that will enhance and widen the activities on offer for Young Carers.
• To be aware of and follow at all times, national and local policy in relation to safeguarding children, young people and adults.
• To promote the work of St Helens Young Carers service – undertaking talks/presentations on the support offered. This may include activities such as representation at community outreach events, school assemblies, college/university open days and providing awareness sessions to professionals.
• To contribute to the St Helens Carers Centre social media channels and newsletter distribution as required.
• To adhere to the policies and procedures of St Helens Carers Centre.
• To manage the rota of sessional staff at Activities and ensure adequate cover is provided.
• To provide training, coaching briefings and support to sessional activity staff.
• Ensure that appropriate levels of confidentiality and safety are maintained in all areas of work with Young Carers, sharing information in a professional manner, maintaining strict confidentiality.
