Summary
The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service, have secured funding until April 2026, totrial a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including (but not limited to) integrated MDT clinical pathways for chronic respiratory disease management,additionallocalisedpulmonary rehabilitation programs,andspecialist home rehabilitation and support, forpeoplewith respiratory diseaseliving withhigh symptom burdenwhoare athigh riskof deteriorationandurgent care use.
This roleoffersyouapermanent contract with our Trust(UHMBT),andarolealigned with theCommunityRespiratoryServiceuntil 31stMarch 2026. Further funding forus to continuethese Respiratory services beyond April 2026, will be dependent on the success of this trial period.

This Specialist Respiratory Nursing post, is an integrated role, that will require you to work closely with our Secondary care oxygen team and community Respiratory Nurses, to support the safe and efficient delivery of Home oxygen services across South Cumbria.
Experience in an NHS setting requiring management of Respiratory failure, chronic respiratory disease, oxygen therapy and blood gas sampling, along with excellent people skills and a collaborative team working approach are essential for this post
Please see JD/PS for more details, but in summary this role will require you to:
• In unison with existing Oxygen specialists, lead improvements in the home oxygen pathway by working collaboratively with UHMBT Oxygen team members and patients
• Visit patients in their home to review their home oxygen needs
• Deliver community-based oxygen review clinics across South Cumbria
• Work closely with the Oxygen Patient Navigators to embed a system of good co-ordination of home oxygen reviews (domiciliary and clinic) across South Cumbria
• Provide clinical supervision on the safe management of home oxygen to the community respiratory team
• Provide training in Home oxygen safety reviews, ear lobe blood gas sampling and support of the deteriorating respiratory patient in the community
• Develop effective working relationships with key oxygen stakeholders
• Contribute to audit and clinical service improvement redesign as part of the Morecambe Bay respiratory network and UHMBT Respiratory teams
UHMBT Integrated Community Serviceprovidescare outside of the hospital setting, including communitylocationsand people’s own homes.
UHMBT hospital services operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
