Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the high-profile and fast-paced Arts & Libraries team, which sits within the Culture & Creative Industries (CCI) directorate. CCI comprises just over a hundred colleagues in three policy teams working across the creative industries, arts, and museums sectors, supported by a team of analysts. Our aim is to protect and promote the long term resilience of the very best of our nation’s cultural and creative assets to ensure they are made available to the widest possible audience, both at home and abroad, to improve the quality of life of individuals, communities and the nation, and promote the UK to the world.

The Arts & Libraries team mission is to engage and support our world-leading arts and culture sector in order to increase the personal, economic and social benefits of culture at a local and national level, through effective public investment and policy making. Recent work in the team has included developing policy proposals on youth and skills, capital funding for the sector, and creative excellence; overseeing and supporting the delivery of several new cultural projects around the country; and sponsoring Arts Council England.

We have two exciting SEO roles available, each with different contract lengths:

  • Sponsorship Advisor (Arts Council England) - 2 years
  • Arts Policy Advisor - 1 year

The postholder will join a dynamic and fast-paced team, where the flexibility to take on different responsibilities at different times, as determined by evolving ministerial and strategic priorities, will be standard. The postholder is likely to focus on:

  • Working with the Arts Council on key projects to support the delivery of strategic goals over the next 3 years, aligned to the DCMS Secretary of State’s priorities and the strategy of the Arts Council.
  • Leading on responses to queries about publicly funded organisations, to provide and demonstrate assurance, oversight, and information to DCMS senior staff and ministers.
  • Supporting governance of DCMS / Arts Council England Sponsorship relationship, including managing regular sponsorship meetings, and supporting regular ministerial and senior engagement with Arts Council England leadership.

Arts Policy Advisor

This role is focussed on the anticipated upcoming Spending Reviews and other fiscal events. Making the case using a compelling narrative and a robust evidence-base to support Spending Review bids will be a core focus.
