Summary
We have an opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join the team in our large and successful assisted conception unit located at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London.
The successful candidate will be expected to become proficient in all aspects of Fertility Nursing. This includes supporting patients throughout their investigations, treatment and follow-up as well as developing skills in a specialist area. Following basic training there will also be the opportunity to undertake ultrasound scan training. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience within a Fertility setting including scanning.
Applicants require a minimum of two years post-registration experience at the time of application and the confidence to take on the responsibilities of a specialist role. You will also need to demonstrate a mature outlook, have excellent communication skills, be motivated to provide the highest standards of nursing care and show a genuine interest in working in this area.
Some flexibility in working hours is required to ensure service cover. To provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic care to patients undergoing fertility investigations, treatment and follow-up in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team. To deputise for senior nursing staff in their absence. To act as nurse co-ordinator for a specialist area of fertility treatment. To act as a teacher and mentor for junior staff and students. To meet all directives of the Human Fertilization & Embryology Authority (HFEA). To attend team/department meetings and actively contribute to service development.

2. Demonstrates specialist skills and knowledge in specific area of clinical practice.
3. With the support of Clinical Nurse Specialist through the Trust’s appraisal process and development of personal development plan identifies their educational and professional needs.
Service Improvement
1. Contribute towards a multi-professional approach in the management of patients within the specialist area.
2. Demonstrate clinical leadership skills by encouraging ward/unit staff to actively participate in the specialist area.
3. Participate in the development of a strategic plan for the specialist service, under the direction of the team leader that includes patient centered evidence-based programmes of care, a continuous quality improvement programme and a regular written review.
