Summary

We are seeking and Estates Assistant to join an existing team of three colleagues wo support the college in its day to day resource management.
Our main college is located on a 7-acre site with a wide range of accommodation for students to live and learn. As part of the estates team, post holders will be skilled or semi-skilled in a tool-trade such as plumbing, carpentry or electrical work and be seeking an opportunity to use those skills as part of the management of the existing site and support the process to move to a new site and continue the works there.

The Beaumont College family work closely together to provide opportunities for special school leavers to prepare for full and busy lives as adults. Empathy, patience and understanding of special educational needs or a willingness and aptitude to learn are key to the postholders appointment.

The substantive role is Monday to Friday; alongside this there is a Duty Rota to support and respond to estates emergency situation such as a leaking pipe or power outage.

Location: Lancaster
Hours: 35 Hours Per week (part time hours considered)

Job Responsibilities:

- To undertake the duties associated with routine management and maintenance of the college buildings
- To support the arrangements for maintaining the college grounds to a high standard
- To support that the annual estates cycle is effective in ensuring the college can function during its term time
- To inspect and identify equipment or machines in need of repair.
- To be creative, yet professional determine necessary, essential repairs in the existing buildings.
- Devise method statements and ensure health and safety risk mitigation is effective in maintaining the integrity of the building and grounds as far as is possible, to ensure the health and safety of self and others
- Plan repair and maintenance work using buildings blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
- Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized professional or technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
- Ensure a professional finish to maintenance to reduce or control risks of poor hygiene or infection
- Perform routine maintenance on building systems and services.
- Support the process of emergency evacuation in the event of an emergency; ensure working knowledge of emergency arrangements
- Undertake security checks and respond appropriately to ensure buildings are safe and secure until repairs are completed
- Cleans and assist with upkeep of the facilities.
- Monitor stock, operate effective stock rotation and orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as determined by the College Principal, Business Manager or Estates Manager

Knowledge Skills and Competency

- Practical skills in a range of estates maintenance tasks
- Positive, can-do approach, whilst working within organisational policy, procedure and guidelines for safe working practices
- Qualified or suitably experienced in a recognised tool trade and able to work to UK recognised standards
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as as part of a team
- Work at pace, meeting deadlines and priorities
- Full UK driving license and a willingness to drive college vehicles
- Skills and abilities to safely use a range of power tools in context of the work role
- Understanding of the management needs for the outdoor space and a willingness to contribute towards the upkeep of the grounds
- Able to use commonly used IT software such as email to maintain contact with college staff, able to keep accurate records of work completed and work to method statements of intended work
- Exhibits safe working practices at all times
- Comply with the requirement of Keeping Children Safe in Education
