Summary

Associate Lecturer - Midwifery (Secondment)

The School of Healthcare Sciences is pleased to offer an exciting part-time secondment opportunity in the following area: Associate Lecturer (Midwifery) Secondment.

The Associate Lecturer/Tutor roles have been established for two main reasons. The first reason is to provide an opportunity for clinically credible practitioners to contribute to the undergraduate, post graduate taught and pre-registration education of midwives, nurses and allied professionals. The second reason is to provide applicants with an opportunity to experience working in higher education in a prestigious and world leading university. It is anticipated that applicants will have the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally during the secondment and the School will enjoy closer links with clinical practice and have the opportunity to acquire first-hand knowledge of the impact of national and local health policy and changes in clinical practice.

The roles provide an opportunity to teach, participate in research and undertake scholarly activity. This may include preparing work for publication and conference presentation; learning more about assessment and examinations systems, for example setting and marking examination papers; programme development and administration; participation in committee work; and the pastoral care of students of Cardiff University. Each secondee will be allocated a mentor and the Associate Lecturer/Tutor Scheme Facilitator will oversee all aspects of the secondment.

The secondment will provide practitioners with an opportunity to experience working in higher education in a prestigious and world leading university. The secondee will have the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally during the secondment and to make informed choices on future career options in higher education and clinical practice. The secondment will be 2 days per week and will be for 12 months (in the first instance).

Informal enquiries can be made by contacting the Associate Lecturer/Tutor Scheme Facilitator or relevant Professional Head: Gareth Morgan Email: morgang11@cardiff.ac.uk- Associate Lecturer/Tutor Scheme Facilitator; or Dr Lucie Warren Email: warrenle@cardiff.ac.uk -Lead Midwife for Education and Professional Head of Midwifery

Please note: Associate Lecturer/Tutor roles are part-time secondment opportunities and are not contracted appointments. The role is equivalent to a Grade 6 Lecturer. However, the successful application would remain on their current salary/terms and conditions with their home organisation and Cardiff University would reimburse their salary costs. Applicants should discuss the opportunity with their line managers and gain approval for their application.
