The Opportunity…
As our next Work Authorisation and Permit to Work Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing the safe and efficient coordination of activities at HPC. This position involves the issuance, cancellation, and suspension of Work Authorisations and Construction Permits using the electronic Permit to Work (P2W) system, ensuring that all operations are effectively controlled and aligned with safety protocols.
As a vital member of the Site Construction team, you will ensure the seamless implementation of the Work Authorisation and Permit System on the construction site. This role is key to effectively coordinating and controlling work activities, ensuring they are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Alongside a salary range of £55,000

What you’ll be doing…
The Work Authorisation and Permit to Work Officer ensures that all requests are thoroughly verified, confirming that Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and other necessary documents are reviewed and validated before issuing work authorisations or permits. Additionally, they promptly issue Work Authorisations and Permits to Work, playing a crucial role in site scheduling and coordination to maintain smooth operations. Other roles and responsibilities for this role also include:
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Site Construction, Safety, and Technical Teams.
- Implement new procedures in collaboration with Safety and Admin Teams.
- Engage actively with field teams and NNB Site Managers to ensure seamless communication.
- Contribute to weekly and monthly reports, including the development and maintenance of performance and KPI indicators.
- Conduct assurance monitoring with Contractor Partners to confirm that work is performed safely and in line with Permits to Work, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Principal Contractor standards.
- Establish and maintain close collaboration with HPC Project Managers to ensure Contractors adhere to their work instructions, risk assessments, and permits to work.
- Report non-compliance issues and highlight best practices to the Permit Office Manager or Assurance Officer.
Who you are…
You should have a solid grasp of UK Health and Safety regulations, particularly the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) and understand their application in a construction setting. Experience working in a Permit to Work environment is essential, especially with the ability to remain calm and methodical during urgent situations. Your background should include administering Work Authorisation and Permit to Work processes in complex projects like power stations, refineries, or petrochemical plants. Additionally, a degree or equivalent in a relevant field would be advantageous however, not essential. Other requirements for this role includes:
- Engineering, construction, or process-driven experience essential.
- IOSH certification or equivalent industry recognition required.
- Proven ability to manage multi-discipline construction works and complex interfaces.
- Demonstrates professionalism with accuracy, tenacity, and a results-driven, collaborative mindset.
- Strong organisational abilities with a proactive and independent work ethic.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging across all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
- Maintains discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
