Summary
Fixed term - 15months - Part time - 30 hours per week

An exciting new opportunity to deliver research in Cambridge & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.
This Research Assistant role will be to support the delivery of the “BAY: Behavioural Activation for Young People with Depression in Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services” research study (NIHR132808). The study aims to examine the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and acceptability of an intervention called Behavioural Activation (BA) and treatment as usual (TAU) versus TAU + psychoeducation (PE) in newly referred depressed adolescents in specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
Training will be provided covering all trial activities including the trial protocol, screening and recruitment, trial database data entry, participant randomisation and data collection procedures.
• The Research Assistant will be expected to work independently according to an agreed plan and under supervision within the Trust’s R&D framework and with the Principal Investigator for the study.
• Promoting the trial to staff and service users within the Trust and identifying and approaching potential participants.
• Managing enquires from potential recruits and/or their advocates
• Developing and maintaining good links and relationships with clinicians and admin staff working in the CAMHS team where referrals are received.
• Using judgement to review the patient notes of newly accepted referrals that come into the service for eligibility into the BAY trial.
• Posting or emailing the Participant Information Packs (which include an expression of interest form, the relevant Participant Information Sheets, The Mood and Feelings Questionnaire and a copy of the consent/assent forms) to potentially eligible patients.
• Carrying out follow-up telephone calls to confirm eligibility in a sensitive manner to parents of patients who have been accepted into CAMHS (or to patients themselves if age 16 +) and who have received a Participant Information Pack and returned an expression of interest form to ascertain interest in taking part in the trial.

• Arrange briefings for teams as appropriate and undertake presentations if required on the nature and requirements of the study.
• Assisting the trial managers and other members of the study team with the general delivery of the study.
• Liaise with the study sponsor, clinicians and research collaborators.
• Organise data collection opportunities associated with the research study.
• Completion of screening logs to capture data on participants approached and consented.
• To attend training and ongoing supervision for the trial as developed and delivered by the Central Management Team and supported by the site clinical Principal Investigator.
• Enter and check quantitative research data.
• Undertake advance planning to meet deadlines for formal study monitoring and study milestones (e.g. participant recruitment, data collection and data analysis)
• To support writing papers for publication during dissemination of results.
• Ensure compliance with research and clinical governance guidelines, training, data protection and ethical requirements.
