The post
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to provide support for Professor James Scourse in his role as the Head of Department, primarily in relation to his research but also contributing to other activity as needed The successful candidate will contribute to the ERC SEACHANGE Project (seachange-erc.eu) and the CONVEX Blue Seascape Survey (convexseascapesurvey.com) investigating Holocene sediment cores from shallow marine contexts globally, in particular supporting the generation of age-depth models. There will be a particular focus on the marine micropalaeontology and organic carbon content of sediment cores from the Brazilian continental shelf. The successful candidate will be fully integrated into both project teams. The focus of the SEACHANGE Project is investigating marine ecological baselines in the marine environment, and the CONVEX project is researching blue carbon sequestration and remobilisation from shelf sedimentary basins.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study e.g. geology, environmental sciences, marine sciences or geography or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Some experience of describing and analysing sediment cores would be an advantage.
