Summary


The role of Associate Dean in England has evolved over a number of years as a result of changes in healthcare education and training, the implementation of revalidation, the emergence of new workforce solutions and the continuing development of NHS England (NHSE) Workforce, Training and Education (WT&E) Directorate.



The role of the Associate Dean in the Primary Care School (PCS) helps support the Head of School of Primary care and the Primary Care Dean in embracing corporate, statutory and non-statutory functions, aligning with the NHSE WT&E mandate. The role is focussed firmly upon improving patient and learner safety and experience and ensuring effective educational outcomes.

To support the Primary Care Dean, Associate Deans will work across the spectrum of health and where relevant, social care, within the context of a team, so that the provision of education reflects changing service models. This will deliver an integrated workforce comprising individuals from a spectrum of professional and other backgrounds.



The Associate Dean is professionally and managerially accountable to the NHSE WT&E England Primary Care Dean and Head of School of Primary Care (Training Hubs) in Thames Valley and Wessex.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

The portfolio for this role will focus on shaping, codesigning and supporting the implementation of local strategies for the sustainable development, upskilling and transformation of the primary care workforce, identifying and realising opportunities to achieve key outcomes in line with national policy.

· To engage strategically at system level across Thames Valley and Wessex.

· To support compliance with requirements particularly with regard to the supervision and support for trainees and learners.

· To identify learning needs and support provision of educational appraisal, educator development and resource for faculty and learners.

· To support the Head of School in a strategy for delivery of training courses and supporting educational developments within the Primary Care School in line with multi-professional regulators.
