HOURS: Full Time - 35 hours
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at either our London Wall or Sighthill North office.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for an Engineering Lead to join our Domestic Payments lab and our International & CHAPS lab.

We're responsible for over 4bn UK electronic Payments including Faster Payments, Cheque Clearing, BACS, Cash distribution and more. Our team works in close collaboration with industry groups and regulators to protect the UK, the Bank and our Customers. We sit in the Payments Services Platform which provides compliant, efficient and innovative payments capabilities for the Group to enable customers to move money confidently, quickly and securely. In the Engineering Lead Role, you will deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring and supporting your engineering teams. This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a "player-coach" model.

Specifically you'll focus on the following:

  • Working in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software and showcase excellent interpersonal and communication skill whilst ensuring software operates as intended.

  • You'll be an advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting them in resolution of impediments and issues

  • Leverage modern technologies to unlock agility in how we meet future needs efficiently, delivering compelling customer and business propositions

  • Provide input into the development of IT Security policies, develops underlying procedures and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organisation.

  • Analyse and evaluate the feasibility/relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then develops and amends as necessary with guidance from senior colleagues and/or supervises activities performed by a product development/specialist team.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Experience across the Payments domain, industry and technology ecosystem

  • Ability to meet changing requirements by developing new testing approaches and strategy for a defined range of products and/or operations.

  • Experience in providing Software Engineering oversight, technical and people leadership across multiple teams

  • Takes responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a substantial department, while informally coaching and mentoring others throughout the organisation and investing in own personal development.

  • Experience in inspiring delivery whilst encouraging simplicity and developing confidence & trust

  • Ability to address risks across our current service through investing in our assets and security capabilities.

And the following would be really useful

  • Strong working knowledge of Payments Systems such as Faster Payments, BACS and Current Account Switching Service

  • Good understanding of middleware and integration technologies
