Summary

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Latin America and Caribbean (LATAC) team in the International Strategy and Trade Relations (ISTR) directorate. ISTR is responsible for strengthening the UK’s trade relationship with partners around the world by protecting and increasing access to markets. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving forward the UK’s trade and investment relationship with the Mercosur countries of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. The post holder will lead a happy, motivated and high-performing team of 1XSEO, 2XHEO and 1xEO.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Leading the Mercosur team, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  • Setting and delivering a strategy to strengthen the UK’s trade and investment relationship with the Mercosur countries.
  • Identifying, prioritising and resolving barriers to trade across the Mercosur countries.
  • Driving forward policy interventions to make trade easier and more efficient.
  • Representing the UK in government-to-government engagement where required and briefing Ministers and senior officials ahead of their engagements.

The above will require:

  • Close working with colleagues across DBT, in our Embassy network and in other government departments.
  • Strong relationships with counterparts in Mercosur countries and their Embassies.
  • A good understanding of UK business interests, the UK’s trade offer, the Mercosur markets and HMG interests in the region.
